Taketina Journey

Are My Body’s RHYTHMS And How Do They Affect The Way I Move, Think and Feel?
Our personal trainers at Momentum for Life “love to practice what we preach” and so over the recent June long weekend Gus Rickard and Ed Hale made the trip to the Blue Mountains for a 3 day Taketina workshop. So what is Taketina? Taketina is a form of therapy combining voice, movement and rhythm using the body as the primary instrument. In more technical/scientific lingo, Taketina is based on neuroscience where research shows TaKeTiNa balances both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems to create a deeply healing state…pretty cool hey!!! Being our first experience with Taketina, we really didn’t quite know what to expect. However, after a really busy couple of months at Momentum for Life pouring our energy into coaching others toward better health and wellbeing, we were both excited at the opportunity to give back to our own bodies and restore our rhythmic balance.
We arrived at the hall on the first day and half expected an introduction and some bits and pieces of administration before the proceedings got under way, you know, like how most normal workshops begin. Well, this wasn’t the case at Taketina. Instructors Nick and Justine had a slightly different approach and that was to give as little details as possible and to share that we were to resist any urge to want to learn anything, or understand the process. “Just…be”, they shared, and with that we were straight in to our first “journey”. The days were filled with 4 or 5 separate journeys, with each different journey having its own individual beat, hand gesture’s, clapping, musical instruments and vocal calling. We all experienced each journey very differently and sometimes what some of us found simple others found quite challenging and visa versa. The journey’s challenged our ability to simply enter in to a “flow state” where our actions and awareness would merge. Where we would resist pressure we put on ourselves to master all of the movements and vocals within each journey. Not until we gave in to our ability to want to control the situation did this flow state emerge in each of us. It is in this flow state that we all experienced synchronicity with our body rhythms, breath, heart rate and brainwaves.
So where exactly does rhythm exist in our own lives? And how does it affect me?
Well, rhythm is energy and we as human beings are simply living, breathing energy systems. Each of us experiences the flow of energy throughout our body in every living moment. Energy affects the way we move, think and feel. Have you ever wondered why you may not be moving as well one day? Or thinking as clearly the next? Or perhaps you don’t feel well right now? Consider that this is the flow of energy within you being disturbed or better yet your body is “out of rhythm”. So, it’s obvious isn’t it, in order to help move, think and feel better we need to start with finding rhythmic balance.
Our personal trainers at Momentum for Life coach clients through correcting their rhythms. We support our clients rhythms through the training and coaching that we do, and leave our clients feeling as healthy and vibrant every time they work with us. Rhythms exist in many different aspects of our lives that most don’t usually pay that much attention to. For example, do you go to bed by a certain time each night and sleep for a certain amount of hours? Do you eat at regular times and are you fuelling your body with good quality food? Do you exercise regularly and at certain times of the day? Do you exercise is a way that supports your body and its hormonal rhythms? Do you drink enough water and is it filtered? Do you breathe properly and consistently? Do you allow at least 30 mins a day to really tune in with your body, whether this be meditating or walking in nature? And the list goes on and on…
So, now that you are aware of how your body and rhythm are important to your health and wellbeing, perhaps this is another one of those boxes that needs to be ticked when asking yourself “how do I find a personal trainer”? are they the right trainer for me and what is it exactly that they will offer me? Our personal trainers at Momentum for Life support your rhythms. We train and coach in a way that brings rhythmic balance and, therefore, a greater level of health and wellbeing to each of our clients.
