“To do nothing is sometimes a good remedy”…well, that’s not exactly what we get up to in Momentum for Life’s Core/Chi classes but this resounding little quote from Hippocrates acts as a good intro to help understand what we really do achieve in this class should we have you intrigued to read on. Firstly, we must define the terms core and chi and what these terms mean. For some, the core means the abdomen, and no, sorry guys we don’t spend an hour of this class performing endless crunches in the hope of you leaving here with a “six pack”. We’ll leave that up to the bigger, meaner gym chains and their “core” designated area of the gym floor. The core for us means building and maintaining the foundations for energy and vitality within your body’s systems. We achieve this through focusing our attention on breath and allowing for optimal flow of life force energy, often called chi, by performing specific movements called zone exercises. Each zone exercise targets the flow of chi to particular part’s and systems of our bodies.
Our chi classes are structured as a circuit of low intensity zone exercises to bring about balance of chi within the body. It makes for the perfect evening class to wind down from a busy day and help prepare the body for a deeper sleep. You will experience leaving this class very balanced through your physical, mental and emotional bodies. This is much better than boot camp after work, which will stimulate your adrenals, elevate your cortisol and push you away from the rest and repair state you need for a good night’s sleep.
